Dr. Biteko promises cooperation with International Energy Sector Organizations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, held a meeting and discussions with the U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr. Michael Battle, during his courtesy visit today, September 13, 2023, at the Ministry’s Sub Office in Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Battle visited Hon. Biteko with the aim of congratulating him on his appointment and new responsibilities, as well as discussing various issues of sectoral cooperation between the two countries.

During their discussions, Hon. Biteko stated that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with national and international stakeholders in the implementation of various energy sector projects, including those for electricity production and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

Hon. Biteko mentioned that negotiations between the government and LNG project investors are progressing well, with experts reviewing the contract terms to ensure satisfaction on both sides. However, he hinted at the possibility of revising some terms to further improve them.

“We are continuing to review and improve certain aspects of this contract so that when it is ready, it can serve as a tool to ensure the expectations and benefits of this project are achieved,” explained Hon. Biteko.

Ambassador Battle also informed Hon. Biteko that there are two American companies, Astra Energy and Upepo Energy, with the intention to invest in Tanzania in the field of electricity production.

Addressing the issue, Hon. Biteko promised to expedite the matter, particularly given the current high demand for electricity in the country.

Moreover, Ambassador Battle expressed confidence that Hon. Biteko will excel in overseeing the Energy Sector, considering his extensive experience in the Extractive Industry, including the type of contracts he encountered during his tenure as the Minister of Minerals.
